OUR WORK

As over 120,000 active & retired UAW Members across the Western States, workers in Region 6 are organizing for a just & sustainable future for all.

Advancing Climate Justice

Exacerbated by decades of corporate greed and institutional inaction, climate change is an increasingly existential threat to the basic livability of our planet. This moment demands urgent, structural change, which must be driven by those most directly impacted — workers & frontline communities. In Region 6, workers are taking action in a number of ways to win a real voice for workers in shaping a green future, including by:

  • organizing in EV, battery, & semiconductor manufacturing & research

  • campaigning for workforce standards & public funding legislation

  • enforcing health & safety contract language

  • organizing for affordable housing & transit policy

  • deepening relationships with climate justice & racial justice organizations

  • and more.

Advancing Social Justice & Equity

Through deep organizing at work, in our communities, and in politics, Region 6 workers are building solidarity across difference to advance a bold social justice agenda that puts power in the hands of all working people. Region 6 members are taking on this work in a number of ways, including by:

  • developing new organizing campaigns around issues of workplace equity and anti-discrimination

  • building coordinated campaigns for contract language & legislation on reproductive justice, immigration, anti-bullying, equal pay, & more

  • running trainings on building an issue campaign & engaging coworkers

  • coordinating regional actions for a permanent ceasefire & justice in Palestine

  • and more.

Fighting Corporate & Institutional Greed

Across the Region, members’ work contributes to the public good, improves our communities, & brings in huge revenues for our employers. But too often, our employers pour that money — record profits, massive research grants & tuition dollars — into their own bloated salaries and anti-union campaigns. Region 6 members are organizing to shift the power imbalance at the heart of these issues, including by:

  • organizing strategic targets to build sectoral density in higher ed, research, manufacturing, and other core regional industries

  • building aggressive contract campaigns around issues of wages, workload, overtime

  • fighting for legislation to expand collective bargaining rights, strike support, and worker protections

  • fighting for college affordability & loan forgiveness

  • organizing for renters’ rights protections

  • and more.
